Home Renovation with Mack Farquhar

When Mack Farquhar entered the real estate industry in 2015, it didn’t take him long to discover a vision for the way things ought to be better. Out of that vision, Mack started The Farquhar Group and shortly after that he began flipping houses.

At the end of 2016, Mack started flipping homes and has completed over a dozen homes since then. From the risk of a new project to the satisfaction of the final look on the buyer’s face of their newly renovated home gives Mack the push and excitement to keep going.

One of his favorites was Stone Ridge, where he had to hold himself back from purchasing it himself if it wasn’t too far from home. The layout and pool were all incredible but even the best renovations don’t come without the stress any flipping project can bring.

For any project, especially home renovations, it’s all about the numbers. Understand your costs including: contractors, home prices in the area you’re working, and materials. Don’t be afraid to invest in a solid team. Mack personally can be involved in the flipping process, but is confident to leave certain decisions such as design to his hired contractors.

At the end of the day, Mack continues to flip homes because of what it teaches him as a realtor. Mack says “Being a flipper makes me a better realtor and being a realtor makes me a better flipper. Here is why that happens because when I am showing people houses or selling someone’s house I have a much better understanding of the construction field than most everyday realtors. Because I am a Realtor I have a better understanding of what buyers want than people who are flipping but not Realtors.”
